Yacht draft and keel options: how to read the range in a specification
A draft range in a manufacturer's specification usually describes several keel versions, not an adjustment available on every boat. When buying a used yacht, what counts is the version fitted to that specific boat.
This content awaits editorial review and is not indexed.
A range is a list of versions
The Oceanis 34.1 has a 1.50–2.55 m range in the manufacturer's source. Those are two extreme keel versions, not adjustable draft. A listing should state which version the boat has.
When sources disagree
For the Sun Odyssey 410 the current model page gives 2.14 m and an older manufacturer specification 2.25 m. We do not pick one value: the boat's documentation decides.
Shallow keel as an option
The Bavaria C42 gives 1.70 m draft for the shallow-keel option. Not every C42 has it — confirm it in the documents and compare it with the waters you plan to sail.
What to ask the seller for
Ask for a document identifying the keel version and, if in doubt, a measurement or yard confirmation. Compare listings only within the same version.
